Patriotism
Authors Note: This is an essay  I had to write for an assignment. It's about why patriotism matters.

When living in America, you need to be a patriot. Patriotism is America. It's what has made our country what it is today. We are a free country. But that doesn't mean we don't have to give it respect. Take time out of your day, and figure out if you are a patriot.

Do any of the following words describe you: helpful, loyal, ambitious, or friendly? If so it appears that you are a patriot. But the real question is “Are you willing to help someone in a time of need, even if you are too?” Why, that to me is a real patriot, one who is willing. One who shows devotion to their country and their people.

The citizens that live in America and don’t respect it are rude. If you don't give our country value because you don't like some of our ways of thinking or doing than you shouldn't live here. America is a wonderful country. It isn't a place you can just call your home without paying your dues.

Although, there are ways you can show your devotion and respect. One way is to serve for our country in war. You can also volunteer, and help people or things less fortunate than you. Or maybe you could help pick up garbage on the side of the road. These aren't the only things you can and should do. But it's a start. If we all work together there will be a great outcome- one marvelous country. A place we can all call home.

As you can see patriotism is very important in order to have a successful place to live. All you have to do is show respect and help out others. It's as easy as that! Wouldn’t you want to make our world a better place?
