Three Willows

Hi guys! This is were I'll publish my every day writing for my independent book called Three Willows the Sisterhood Grows.

Authors Note: This is my final piece for the story Three Willows:The Sisterhood Grows. Just so you know, my story is about three friends who met when they were young. They planted three trees that have started to grow into giant willow trees-but they don't know that. They're not good friends anymore and they rarely see each other. In the end, they discover they need each other in life. The friends discover the trees and continue their friendship. I just wanted to fill you in just in case you didn't know what my book is about.

Friendship is like a willow tree. You need seeds, to plant the new life; roots, to stay together strongly; and leaves, to blossom your friendship into something you would have never imagined it to become. That's what happened in the story Three Willow Trees: the Sisterhood Grows.

Three friends Polly, Ama and Jo soon discover that their friendship, once strong, has slowly died while each of them spend their summer apart from each other.  This seems to symbolize a friendship growing apart but it's not. In this story, the friends realize that they need each other.  Their friendship, just like the trees they've planted, have just begun to grow, and will continue forever-just like a willow tree.

Although hurtful comments were said to one another it does not matter. The friends have  forgiven their mistakes and together continue to grow their sisterhood-just like a willow tree. Because no matter how far back you cut a willow tree, it will never die.

Authors Note: I decided to write another piece about symbolism from a certain scene in the book. One of the friends, Polly, over hears another one of the friends, Jo talking to a new group of girls about how weird Polly is. At the time Polly was carrying a tray of lemonade that she was going to serve to 'the guests' although she got so mad she dropped them on the floor causing the glasses to brake. That's just a little summary about what happened so you know where I'm coming from in this piece. These are just my thoughts, therefore this isn't really put together well.

To me, lemonade seems like a comical symbol. Although in this story, a glass of lemonade being broken into pieces turns out to be tragic. I believe if you were to put this particular scene on the tragedy plot line,  the tragic flaw would be Jo talking about Polly behind her back.

Authors Note: This piece is about an obvious symbol in the story Three Willows the Sisterhood Grows. It's written by the same author of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. If you're familiar with that book you'd know that there are four friends who share a pair of pants-they have a 'sisterhood'...blah...blah...blah anyways they're sort of in the story. I thought that might help you understand this a little more.

A simple symbol in my independent book are the willow trees that the three friends planted. I believe that's what inspired the title (Three Willows the Sisterhood Grows) because the author is relating to the three friends as Willow trees. Willow trees are a tragic symbol in literature. The author is stating that the sisterhood (previously the sisterhood of the traveling pants) continues to grow, rather than die. Again, this inspired the title.

Authors Note: I really liked writing a poem yesterday so I'm going to write another. This time, I'm writing it from one of the characters point of view, Polly. It's summer, and her two other friends are all away.

There's no one here,
no one in sight.

I guess it's now clear,
how you and I feel.

I called you once,
I called you twice,

Expecting you to pick up.
But that was just a set up,

I've made up my mind,
won't you be so kind?

Authors Note: I haven't gotten very far into the story so I thought I'd start out with a poem. I'm going to do a Haiku.  Here's what I know so far in the story: There's three friends who met at school one day. They were at science and each of them got a small plant like tree. One day they ran away from school together (since all of there parents forgot to pick them up) and became friends ever since. Soon after, they decided to plant there trees in a nearby woods. Now, they're in eight grade and have slowly drifted apart from each other. I hope that helps fill you in. I believe this poem states what all three
friends are thinking.

We used to be friends,
marked it by planting three trees,
why must it all end?

**In case you were wondering, a Haiku is a three line poem. In the first line it should have 5 syllables, second line seven syllables, and the third line should have 5 syllables. It should be about nature or have some sort of nature in it.**

  1. In your most recent assignment 4/28/11, I really thought it was cool that you got all the symbolism and meaning of the book just from the title.

  2. I agree with Abby on your 4-28-11. I liked how you figured out the meaning of the book.

  3. In your most recent post (4-28-11) I liked how you compared the symbolism in the book to the mode in literary analysis like we've been taught. It shows that you look deeper in the chapter then just the words across the page. You pay attention to the more important stuff, like symbolism.

  4. I really liked the second poem you did. It was really cool and had a great voice in it.

  5. I think your final piece was really strong. The first few sentences were really creative and I loved them. You always have a professional voice when you write.

  6. In response to the entry from 5/19: I really like how you stylistically place the first sentence, a very direct, short sentence, right before a complex, longer sentence. The contrast is particularly cool. Well done.
